If you want to prove your own military service (or a kin’s), the SCRACVS is not your resource. We do not verify employment. We verify if a person enjoys the protections of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
Instead, you should obtain a copy of your DD Form 214.
The American News Report published an article about the significance of the DD Form 214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”). According to the article:
- The DD 214 is the comprehensive synopsis of a servicemember’s time, including duration of service, military job specialty, rank nature of discharge, and medals.
- It is important to determine benefits such as healthcare, education, employment benefits, loans, and burial benefits.
- It is the form to give to potential employers for veteran’s preferences (after release from active duty).
- How to obtain a DD 214
- Only issued after release from active duty.
- National Archives – National Personnel Records Center (“NPRC”)
